Second Army Region Commander Takes Decisive Action on Border Fence Issue

Bangkok: The 2nd Army Region Commander has asserted that he will not remain indifferent to the issue of Cambodian soldiers dismantling the Thai barbed wire fence at the border.

According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Gen. Wirayut Raksin, Commander of the Second Army Region, has addressed concerns regarding the dismantling of Thailand’s barbed wire fence by Cambodian soldiers. He clarified to the public that he is actively addressing the situation and has ordered a bomb disposal team to clear the area before any new barbed wire is laid. This precaution is necessary to mitigate the risk of landmines potentially being planted, which could endanger Thai soldiers.

Lt. Gen. Raksin emphasized that the operation to re-establish the barbed wire fence was initiated but halted due to concerns that Cambodian soldiers might have laid landmines in the area. Additionally, there were reports of the area being videotaped and shared on social media, urging Thai soldiers to restore the fence. The Commander reiterated that once the bomb disposal officers ensure the area is safe, soldiers will proceed with reinstalling the barbed wire fence.

Furthermore, Lt. Gen. Raksin stated that any future attempts by Cambodian soldiers to dismantle the barbed wire fence would be met with immediate and appropriate measures as instructed.
