Bangkok: The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) has issued a warning to the public about scammers using fake LINE accounts to impersonate MEA officials. These scammers are using the MEA name and logo to deceive people into transferring money or disclosing personal information, posing as agents providing electricity services or collecting service fees through unauthorized channels.
According to Thai News Agency, the MEA has expressed concern over the potential damage to property and personal data caused by these scams. The authority emphasizes the importance of verifying the authenticity of communication channels, stating that genuine LINE MEA Connect accounts will have the green Verified shield symbol in front of the name "MEA Connect."
The public is advised to be vigilant and exercise caution when receiving information from various social media platforms, as they may spread inaccurate information. In the event of encountering fraudsters, individuals are urged to report the incident to local police immediately.
