Bangkok: Ruangkrai Leekitwattana has filed a complaint with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to investigate allegations against three prominent politicians, including Mr. Chai-ampawan Manphienchit, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, and Mr. Suchart Trakulkesomsuk, for potential violations of the Code of Ethics Section 17.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Ruangkrai submitted a letter via EMS to the NACC requesting an investigation into the conduct of the aforementioned individuals. As members of the House of Representatives and in Mr. Suchart's case, the chairman of the NACC, they are being scrutinized to determine if they have violated ethical standards. The complaint emphasizes that addressing such violations falls under the direct purview of the NACC.
The complaint references specific provisions of the Organic Act on the Prevention and Suppression of Corruption B.E. 2561, such as Sections 28 and 87, which outline the duties and powers of the NACC. These sections empower the commission to investigate allegations against politicians, judges, and officials in independent organizations suspected of corruption, ethical violations, or misconduct.
The submitted petition further details the urgency of addressing ethical breaches, especially in light of an agenda item for a House of Representatives meeting scheduled for February 20, 2025. During this session, a request for permission to arrest Mr. Chaiyamphon Manphienchit on criminal charges will be discussed, as the Royal Thai Police has lodged a complaint against him for a serious offense.
The complaint highlights the roles of Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, as a member of the House of Representatives and President of the National Assembly, and Mr. Suchart Trakulkesomsuk, suggesting that their positions necessitate a thorough examination by the NACC under Section 48, paragraph one.
Mr. Ruangkrai asserts that the NACC is the appropriate body to handle such investigations and emphasizes the importance of addressing allegations of ethical misconduct through the proper channels.
