Bangkok: The Royal Thai Police are intensifying their efforts to dismantle call center gangs that have been exploiting senior citizens through fraudulent investment schemes. Authorities have underscored the seriousness of becoming a mule account holder, warning that such involvement carries severe penalties. They are also in the process of developing a cyber vaccine to combat these crimes.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwpaen, Deputy Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police and Deputy Director of the Technology Crime Suppression Center, announced the results of a series of operations aimed at suppressing technology crime offenders. These operations, conducted by the Technology Crime Suppression Center and the International Anti-Scam and Human Trafficking Syndicate Command Center, took place between October 21 and 23, 2025, resulting in four significant cases.
In the first case, officers in Chonburi Province apprehended individuals involved in a scheme where a victim was deceived into transferring 252,200 baht under the pretense of securing retirement benefits. The police successfully intervened, leading to the arrest of the perpetrators and the recovery of most of the defrauded amount.
The second case involved a raid in Khon Kaen Province, where law enforcement discovered a group of Chinese and Myanmar nationals operating a fraudulent network targeting Chinese citizens. The operation led to the seizure of numerous electronic devices and cash, as well as significant evidence of cross-border online fraud.
In Chiang Rai Province, officers arrested a Chinese national found in possession of hundreds of ATM cards and a substantial amount of cash. This arrest was part of an ongoing effort to curtail the illegal use of electronic cards in technology-related crimes.
The fourth case focused on fraudulent parcel delivery schemes, where perpetrators sent unrequested parcels and collected cash on delivery. The investigation revealed a large-scale operation, resulting in multiple arrests and the recovery of significant funds.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong emphasized the legal consequences of participating in such fraudulent activities, highlighting the severe penalties under Thai law. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities, as the police continue to work diligently to protect citizens from technology-related crimes.
