Royal Thai Army Tightens Control Over Thai-Cambodian Border Crossings

Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army has issued an order to tighten control over the border crossings between Thailand and Cambodia. The order authorizes the commanders of the Burapha and Suranaree Task Forces to manage the opening and closing of these crossings, following the National Security Council's resolution.

According to Thai News Agency, Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvari announced that the army chief, General Pana Klaewplodthuk, signed the order. This directive grants the task force commanders the authority to establish necessary measures and conditions suitable to the security situation at each crossing point. The decision stems from a National Security Council meeting on June 6, 2025, positioning the Royal Thai Army as the primary unit responsible for managing these border operations to maintain national security.

The enhanced measures come amid ongoing tensions as Cambodia has encroached on Thai territory and displayed provocative actions. Despite Thailand's efforts to resolve the situation through peaceful negotiations, Cambodia has continued to bolster its forces and construct military installations near the border. These actions have posed threats to Thailand's sovereignty and security, necessitating a firm response to safeguard national interests and the welfare of residents in the border areas.

The Royal Thai Army encourages the public to stay informed through its official channels at www.rta.mi.th, ensuring accurate information dissemination regarding these developments.
