Ubon Ratchathani: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul is set to travel to Ubon Ratchathani tomorrow to assess the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border. He plans to meet with governors from seven provinces on June 11 to discuss potential evacuation strategies and the reinforcement of back-line defenses, amid concerns over nationalist movements and the possibility of a coup.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin, while attending duties in Geneva, has maintained daily communication with key officials including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and the Governor of Ubon Ratchathani. These discussions focus on ensuring stability and confidence among the local population, preparing for any urgent evacuation needs by organizing shelter, field hospitals, and food supplies. Volunteers have been mobilized to protect communities in the border provinces.
The National Security Council, under the Prime Minister's leadership, has delegated strategic decisions to the military. Provincial governors remain prepared to act on military directives, such as closing checkpoints if necessary. Anutin emphasized that local people are living normally, with safety measures in place and no recent ambush incidents reported.
Anutin expressed his intent to visit Ubon Ratchathani informally with senior officials before the formal meeting with provincial governors. This meeting aims to enhance frontline support and ensure effective care for the local population.
Regarding changes to Ministry of Interior and Bhumjaithai Party profiles, Anutin remarked on the importance of supporting the military. He downplayed concerns about a potential coup, emphasizing Thailand's commitment to resolving conflicts through negotiations in accordance with international principles.
