Royal Merit-Making Ceremony for Queen Sirikit Draws Thousands to Grand Palace

Dateline: Bangkok: This morning, a royal merit-making ceremony was held for the seventh day of the royal funeral for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, at Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall in the Grand Palace. This event drew a large crowd, with officials organizing the queue for those wishing to pay their respects.

According to Thai News Agency, members of the public gathered after hearing that His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Queen, and other members of the Royal Family would be attending the ceremony for the royal urn of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. Many individuals arrived early to pay homage and welcome the Royal Family.

The atmosphere at Sanam Luang, the entrance to the screening point for paying homage before the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, has been vibrant since 8:30 a.m. People from various provinces have been arriving steadily, with many eager to witness the royal motorcade. Officials have been guiding visitors through the screening point and directing them to waiting tents, which lead to the tunnel in front of the Royal Plaza, where sufficient seating is available.

Yesterday, 3,586 people passed through Mani Noparat Gate to pay their respects, bringing the total number to 12,852. The Bureau of the Royal Household has announced that the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram will be closed until November 8th due to the royal merit-making ceremony for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit.

Bangkok has tasked relevant agencies with developing an operational plan for the reopening of the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew on November 9, 2025. Tourists will enter through Mani Noppharat Gate and exit through Thewaphirom Gate, similar to the current arrangement for the public. A larger number of visitors is anticipated, and all agencies have been instructed to adjust their operational plans to accommodate both the public and tourists efficiently.
