Protest Group Led by Wira Somkwamkit Retreats Amid Sniper Threats

Sa kaeo: "Weera" and a group of protesters approaching the border at Ban Nong Chan have retreated after soldiers informed them that Cambodian forces were targeting them with snipers, fearing for their safety.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wira Somkwamkit, president of the Anti-Corruption People's Network, led a crowd to the border at Ban Nong Chan, Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province, after issuing a 1:00 PM deadline for Cambodians who had encroached on Thai soil. Meanwhile, riot control officers intercepted the protesters and seized the keys to a backhoe.

It was recently reported that Mr. Wira and his group retreated, citing military reports that Cambodian forces were targeting them with snipers and feared for their safety. Police then summoned Mr. Wira to Khok Sung Police Station for negotiations.
