Deputy Minister of Transport Advocates Air Traffic Management Amid Winter Wind Changes

Bangkok: Deputy Minister of Transport, Mallika Jiraphanwanich, has called upon the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand to effectively manage air traffic in response to anticipated changes in wind direction during the winter season. With Thailand entering a peak tourist period, Ms. Jiraphanwanich emphasized the need for adjusting flight routes and directions for takeoff and landing to ensure safety and minimize disruption.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Jiraphanwanich has instructed Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co., Ltd. (AEROTHAI) to prioritize safety in their preparations, while also considering service quality and minimizing impacts on passengers and communities. She has highlighted the importance of collaboration with aviation agencies and exploring ways to increase flight capacity through new technological advancements, preparing for future growth in the aviation industry.

Mr. Surachai Nooprom, Deputy President and Acting President of AOT, elaborated on the necessity of adjusting flight routes due to the shifting wind direction during the winter months of November to February. Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang Airports have already adjusted their flight paths, with aircraft required to fly against the wind to meet safety standards. Specifically, this involves flights from south to north over areas such as Bang Khen and Sukhumvit. The Aeronautical Radio of Thailand is actively monitoring weather conditions and coordinating with relevant stakeholders to ensure safety and minimal impact on air traffic services.

Additionally, AOT is exploring methods to enhance Suvarnabhumi Airport's capacity and management, drawing comparisons with Incheon Airport in South Korea and Chongqing Airport in China. Efforts include studying air traffic management models, runway configurations, and the introduction of new technologies to improve efficiency and safety.
