Bangkok: The Prime Minister expressed her condolences on the passing of General Khamtai Siphandon, former President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, sent a message of condolence to Mr. Sonxay Siphandon, Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, on April 2, 2025. General Khamtai Siphandon was a key figure in establishing and developing the Lao People's Democratic Republic, contributing significantly to its stability and prosperity. He played a crucial role in fostering close relations between Thailand and Laos across various sectors.
General Siphandon also welcomed His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, during their official visit to Laos. This visit laid the foundation for enduring cooperation between Thailand and Laos over the past seven decades.
The Prime Minister, along with the Thai people, extends heartfelt condolences to Prime Minister Sonxay, the Siphandon family, and the Lao people during this period of mourning.
