Bangkok: The Prime Minister emphasized the need for the public to be informed about the entertainment complex issue. This statement came after the Prime Minister was seen holding a sign opposing the entertainment complex while former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was in the area supporting a candidate for the mayor of the Sisaket Provincial Administrative Organization.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, addressed the situation where people were opposing the entertainment complex during Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra's campaign to assist the Pheu Thai Party candidate in Sisaket Province. She clarified that the entertainment complex is not merely about opening casinos but about creating new tourist attractions. Casinos would only be a minor aspect, intended to draw in tourists and help Thailand generate new income, as current sources are insufficient for GDP growth. The complex is meant to create jobs and generate significant income. The Prime Minister stressed the government's duty to explain these points to the public gradually and thoroughly.
On the possibility of holding a referendum to gather public opinion, as suggested by several political parties, the Prime Minister acknowledged that listening to public opinion is crucial.
Reporters noted that as the Prime Minister was returning to her car, her daughter, Nong Thithar, opened the door and called out to her mother, prompting the Prime Minister to get into the car.
