PPRP Criticizes Government’s Handling of Fishermen’s Detention and Urges for Justice

Bangkok: The Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) has raised concerns over the human value of four Thai fishermen and a 14th-class prisoner, highlighting what they perceive as inequality in the government's administration. "Paethongtarn" emphasizes the need to preserve the dignity of Thai people on this land.

According to Thai News Agency, Chakaj Pattanakitwibul, MP for Phang Nga and deputy leader of the PPRP, along with other party members, held a press conference after a meeting chaired by Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan. The party addressed the ongoing detention of four Thai fishermen by the Myanmar Navy, who have not yet been released despite previous government assurances.

Mr. Chakaj criticized the government's lack of transparency and clarity regarding the fishermen's situation, noting that their families remain uninformed about the steps being taken for their release. He urged media support to amplify the call for the fishermen's return, condemning the government's ineffectiveness in negotiating their release and allowing Myanmar to prosecute Thai citizens.

ML Korkasiwat Kasemsri highlighted that it has been 45 days since the incident where a Myanmar warship fired at Thai fishing boats, resulting in one casualty. He criticized the action as excessive, noting it occurred near disputed sea areas and violated a 1980 agreement between Thailand and Myanmar. He compared the incident unfavorably to international cases where less lethal measures are used.

Mr. Chaimongkol Chairob emphasized the perceived inequality in the government's response, stating that the lives of the fishermen appear undervalued compared to other cases. He called for justice and transparency, asserting that the government is failing to treat all Thai citizens with equal value and dignity.

The PPRP continues to press the government to act decisively to ensure the safety and rights of all Thai nationals, regardless of their socioeconomic status. They demand a transparent administration that upholds the dignity and sovereignty of the Thai people.
