Bangkok: Authorities seized a truck transporting 10 million methamphetamine pills concealed within large speakers at a drug X-ray checkpoint in Phrae Province. The driver, identified as Mr. Kamwang, was reportedly unaware of the illicit cargo, as the manifest described the items as large speakers.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred in Village No. 4, Huai Rai Subdistrict, Den Chai District, where Pol. Lt. Col. Thatthep Chotidechochai and his team conducted a search of a 6-wheel truck registered in Maha Sarakham. Upon X-ray inspection, officers discovered suspicious items. Further examination revealed sacks of orange methamphetamine pills, marked with the symbol WY, hidden inside the speakers. The load consisted of 1,000 packages, with each package containing 10,000 pills, amounting to a total of 10 million methamphetamine pills.
The driver, Mr. Kamwang, informed the authorities that he was an employee of a transport company. He explained that he was instructed to collect goods from Wiang Sa District in Nan Province and deliver them to Lopburi Province. The list provided to him specified large speakers as the cargo. He documented the collection process by taking photographs and sending them to his employer, unknowingly transporting illegal substances. The pickup location resembled a warehouse.
In response to the seizure, Pol. Lt. Col. Thanarat Chumsawat, Deputy Commander of Provincial Police Region 5, initiated an investigation to identify all parties involved. This includes examining the warehouse where the goods were collected and scrutinizing the transport company for any links to the illegal operation.
