Motorcycle Linked to Phuket Bombing Discovered in Phatthalung Canal

Phatthalung: Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers in Phatthalung Province have recovered a motorcycle linked to a bombing in Phuket, found submerged in a local canal, raising suspicions that the perpetrators discarded it to eliminate evidence.

According to Thai News Agency, the EOD team utilized a water gun to examine the white Honda Wave motorcycle, which bore a Phetchaburi license plate, after it was discovered underwater by a diving team in an irrigation canal at Ban Ko Sap, Village 3, Khok Sai Subdistrict, Pa Bon District. This location borders Rattaphum District in Songkhla Province. While no explosives were found on the motorcycle, a raincoat and a pair of flip-flops were recovered.

The search operation, conducted by Provincial Police Region 9 in collaboration with the Provincial Police Region 8 investigation team and the Phatthalung rescue diving team, covered nearly 1 kilometer of the canal and lasted over 8 hours from morning until 1:45 p.m. The divers located the motorcycle approximately 400 meters from the main road.

Investigations revealed that the motorcycle was involved in bombings in Phuket and Phang Nga provinces, with records indicating the suspect had previously traveled with it in Phatthalung Province. Surveillance footage showed a suspicious sedan transporting the motorcycle along the irrigation canal road. The sedan left the area unaccompanied by the motorcycle, suggesting the perpetrators abandoned it in the canal to conceal evidence.

The motorcycle has been sent to Provincial Police Region 8 for further investigation, as authorities aim to expand their inquiry into the network of perpetrators in the area.
