Police Shoot Tires to Stop Car Fleeing Drug Checkpoint, Seize 410 kg of Crystal Methamphetamine

Bangkok: Police in a pickup truck chased a drug gang from Chiang Rai to Phitsanulok: They decided to shoot the tires to stop them. A search of the vehicle found 20 sacks of ice, totaling 410 kilograms. One suspect was arrested, while the other escaped.

According to Thai News Agency, the Narcotics Suppression Bureau Investigation Unit 3 drove a pickup truck to chase a drug trafficking gang from Chiang Rai to Phitsanulok. The sedan drove the wrong way and ran a red light at Nong Ao Intersection to Highway 117, Tambon Tha Thong, Amphoe Mueang, Phitsanulok Province. Due to the high speed, the police pickup truck lost control and hit a villager's motorcycle, seriously injuring one person, breaking his arms and legs. The villager's motorcycle was damaged. The police had to shoot out the suspect's tires, fearing that another accident would happen to the villagers. The suspect's car lost control and landed on the median strip before the two suspects abandoned their car and fled. The police were able to arrest one person while the other managed to escape. The escapee was identified as Mr. Chaturaphak.

Police searched a white sedan and found 20 sacks of ice weighing a total of 410 kilograms. The investigation revealed that it was transported from Chiang Rai Province, using the main route Chiang Rai-Phrae-Sukhothai-Bang Rakam-Phitsanulok, with the final destination being Suphan Buri Province, but was intercepted by the investigation team of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau 3.

Initially, the police transported all the evidence, which was ice, to a drug checkpoint in Phu Yuha Khiri District, Nakhon Sawan Province. As for the injured person who was hit by the police pickup truck, he was identified as Mr. Wasan, aged 67. The police are closely monitoring his condition and have coordinated with rescue workers from the Prasat Bun Sathan Foundation in Phitsanulok Province to send him for treatment at Naresuan University Hospital.
