PM Orders Defense Ministry to Mobilize Flood Relief Efforts in Chiang Rai

Chiang rai: Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra has directed the Ministry of Defense to collaborate with provincial governors to provide immediate assistance to flood victims in Chiang Rai. The PM has urged citizens to keep abreast of updates through Cell Broadcast systems and assured that the government has a strategic plan in place to prevent the recurrence of such disasters.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister took to social media to address the gravity of the flood situation, highlighting that local authorities including provincial and district administrations have been actively involved in evacuation efforts. Essential items are being relocated to higher ground, and residents, especially those stranded, are being moved to safer locations.

The PM emphasized that the Ministry of Defense is tasked with coordinating efforts to deploy personnel and equipment swiftly. Local administrative bodies, along with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, are responsible for ensuring the availability of necessary consumer goods. Furthermore, the Ministry of Public Health is on standby with medical personnel available around the clock. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, together with the Ministry of Digital Economy and the Meteorological Department, are actively monitoring the situation to provide timely information to the public.

The Prime Minister conveyed her support to those affected by the floods and the officials involved in relief operations, reiterating the government's commitment to safeguarding lives. She underscored the importance of systematic water management to avert future incidents, asserting that the government has already laid out a comprehensive plan for effective flood prevention.
