Pickup Truck Driver Attempts to Swap Seats After Collision at Tha Sao Intersection

Bangkok: A young man driving a pickup truck crashed into the back of a sedan, letting his friend take the driver's seat instead. The incident occurred at the Tha Sao intersection as the pickup truck, driven by Mr. Phatsit, rear-ended a sedan at a red light, resulting in injuries to the sedan's occupants.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phatsit, who appeared intoxicated, quickly switched to the passenger seat following the collision. He exhibited signs of inebriation, such as watery eyes, while his friend, Mr. Apiwat, assumed the driver's seat but remained silent. The sedan, driven by a 23-year-old woman, suffered damage, and two women inside were injured, although the driver was not seriously harmed.

The sedan driver confirmed to the police that Mr. Phatsit was indeed behind the wheel at the time of the crash, contradicting his claim that Mr. Apiwat was driving. Despite this, Mr. Phatsit insisted that Mr. Apiwat was the driver, supported by another passenger who witnessed the incident but could not provide much information. Police recorded the interaction on a mobile device, seeking clarity on the driver's identity.

Both Mr. Phatsit and Mr. Apiwat initially refused to admit who was driving. They stated they were returning to their residence when the accident occurred, attributing the crash to falling asleep at the wheel. Following the incident, the police arranged for both individuals to undergo blood alcohol testing, with results expected within a week. Given that all three occupants of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries, they were allowed to receive medical treatment. Legal proceedings will commence once the evidence collection process is finalized.
