Bangkok: Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, has expressed his support for Mr. Somchai Sajjapong, a former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, to become the next Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Thailand. Pichai highlighted Somchai's strong foundation in government and finance as key attributes that would enable them to collaborate effectively.
According to Thai News Agency, the nomination of Mr. Somchai is currently under review by the committee before being submitted to the Cabinet for approval. Pichai emphasized the urgency of finalizing this process swiftly so that Somchai could commence his duties without delay.
Pichai addressed concerns about potential disruptions similar to previous nominations, asserting confidence in Somchai's qualifications. He noted that all necessary criteria have been met and anticipated minimal issues, if any, during the nomination process. Pichai expressed optimism that they would work well together, given their mutual understanding and expertise in the financial sector.
Furthermore, Pichai remarked on Somchai's deep understanding of the government sector and his robust financial background, suggesting these qualities would facilitate smooth coordination with the Bank of Thailand. He conveyed belief in their ability to collaboratively set and implement policies efficiently.
