Phumtham Vows Full Legal Action in Ms. Golf Case, Emphasizes Serious Prosecution

Bangkok: Phumtham Vejjayachai, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, who is currently acting as Prime Minister, has announced his commitment to pursue full legal action in the case involving Ms. Golf. He has coordinated with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to aid the Central Investigation Bureau police in handling the matter, highlighting that the case will not be easily resolved and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law due to its nature as a form of sabotage.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham has engaged in discussions with the DSI Director-General to oversee the investigation of this case, which has not only shaken public sentiment but also affected the stability of Buddhism, a core principle of the country. He mentioned that the DSI Director-General has agreed to consider and act on the case. Additionally, Mr. Phumtham communicated with Pol. Lt. Gen. Jiraphop Phuridet, the Commander of the Central Investigation Bureau, who is currently overseas, underscoring the seriousness of the matter and the necessity of clear charges against Ms. Golf, with coordination from the DSI.

The involvement of the DSI is intended to support, rather than transfer the case from, the Central Investigation Bureau. The Central Investigation Bureau remains the primary handler, while any contributions from the DSI are welcomed to enhance the investigation.

Mr. Phumtham reiterated that past cases involving monks often concluded without prosecution, emphasizing that this case will not follow the same pattern. He assured that actions will be taken swiftly and thoroughly, setting a precedent that such incidents will not be tolerated. He stressed the importance of decisive action to prevent recurrence, indicating that consequences will extend beyond mere disrobing, to show that such actions cannot and should not occur.
