Phumtham Expresses Concerns Over Potential Future Flooding in Chiang Rai

Chiang rai: "Phumtham" is concerned about flooding in Chiang Rai if it occurs again in 10-20 days. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, addressed the flood situation in Chiang Rai Province, stating that while the water has receded and is not currently a significant problem, there is concern about potential flooding if more water arrives within the next 10-20 days. He assured that preventive measures have been implemented and noted that there is no immediate need to increase the number of soldiers in the area as military units, including military engineers, are already engaged in a flood barrier project.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Interior has already initiated compensation efforts, with a focus on expediting compensation for farmers, coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture. Mr. Phumtham also confirmed that the absence of a permanent Interior Minister will not disrupt the ongoing efforts to assist the public, highlighting the role of Ms. Thirat Samretwanich, Deputy Minister of Interior, who is currently acting in the position. He emphasized his oversight as Deputy Prime Minister in ensuring the Ministry of Interior's operations continue smoothly.
