Bangkok: "Phumtham" addresses the situation regarding a video circulating on social media that shows a soldier in full uniform having dinner with a foreign individual. The soldier in question has reportedly been retired since 2024. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, as the area used by the Ministry of Defense adheres to specific regulations.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, commented on the clip, confirming that the individual was formerly a member of the Ministry of Defense. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry is tasked with forming a committee to thoroughly investigate the matter. Should any wrongdoing be identified, appropriate actions will be taken in accordance with the law. Preventive measures will be considered to avoid similar incidents in the future, recognizing the potential reputational damage.
Mr. Phumtham, when questioned about the possibility of prohibiting the use of Ministry of Defense facilities for similar purposes, emphasized the need to await the investigation's findings. He highlighted that existing regulations govern the use of Ministry premises, and any activities must comply with these established rules.
