Bangkok: The 3 P agencies are urgently investigating the source of the 12 million baht in question. Was it obtained legally? NACC-PAT-NACC are preparing to investigate the source of the 12 million baht, whether it was obtained legally or not. The NACC is in the process of proposing to the main committee to investigate the filing of the asset declaration of Mr. Thaweewat's wife to see if there was any concealment. Tomorrow, they will hold a joint meeting with local authorities to expedite the identification of the owner of the money.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suksan Prasara-ae, Director of the Investigation and Special Affairs Division, National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), Ms. Ornith Sukban, Director of the Government Sector Anti-Corruption Division (PACC), and Pol. Maj. Gen. Prasong Chalermphan, Commander of the Anti-Corruption Division (ACD), attended a meeting to track the source of the 12 million baht.
After the meeting for more than 1 hour, Mr. Suksan stated that the NACC will have to divide the investigation into two parts. The first part is currently in the process of submitting the matter to the full NACC committee to vote on the investigation of the asset declaration of Mr. Thaweewat's wife because his wife is a director of the NACC unit. Normally, she must submit a declaration of her assets and liabilities, both her spouse and family, every three years according to the Organic Act on the Prevention and Suppression of Corruption B.E. 2542. It is expected that this proposal will be voted on within one to two days. If it is found that there is any concealment of asset declarations, there will be criminal and disciplinary penalties.
Another part that the NACC will have to investigate is the origin of the money. The 3 P unit will have to wait for the local police officers to verify who the money belongs to and where it came from. Initially, the local police have sent evidence to the forensic science center. If they have a conclusion about the money, they will bring it to the 3 P unit's authority to verify what kind of money it is and whether it came from an honest profession. If it was illegally obtained, they will have to proceed according to the procedure. Right now, they still have to wait for the results of the investigation by the local police. Right now, the matter has not been sent to the 3 P unit, but the local police still have time to investigate.
Pol. Lt. Col. Prasong mentioned that tomorrow, the 3 P unit will coordinate and exchange information with the Provincial Police Region 1 headquarters because Pak Kret Police Station is responsible for this matter, which will allow them to determine the direction of the investigation.
Ms. Ornich also noted that the financial trail does not only include 12 million baht. However, she will have to meet with the local police again.
