Bangkok: Phumtham Wechayachai, Chairman of the National Police Commission, has appointed the National Police Chief to oversee a critical meeting focused on major police transfers and appointments. This decision comes as Phumtham attends to pressing matters elsewhere, leaving Police General Kittirat Phanphet, the National Police Commissioner-General, to lead the proceedings at the Royal Thai Police Headquarters.
According to Thai News Agency, the 8th meeting of the National Police Commission for the year 2025 took place in the Sriyanon Conference Room, where participants addressed significant agenda items concerning personnel management. The meeting, originally scheduled to consider pertinent issues on August 28th, was postponed due to several complaints, including those involving Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat Pankaew. The delay allowed time for a thorough review of the information before reaching a decision.
Phumtham, unable to attend due to urgent business, emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to the regulations of the National Police Commission regarding meetings and voting procedures. In his absence, he entrusted Police General Kittirat Phanphet with the responsibility of chairing the meeting, ensuring that the process remained aligned with established guidelines.
The Royal Thai Police headquarters saw heightened activity as media representatives gathered in anticipation of the meeting's outcomes. Senior police commanders began arriving early, signaling the significance of the day's agenda. The meeting's focus included the appointment and transfer of police commanders across various key units, addressing 136 vacant positions, including two deputy national police commanders and seven assistant national police commanders.
As the meeting progressed, stakeholders keenly awaited the resolutions that would shape the future leadership within the Royal Thai Police. The outcomes of these appointments and transfers are expected to have a considerable impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of the police force in the coming year.
