Phuket Voter Turnout Remains Below 50% With Few Hours Left Before Polls Close

Phuket: Three hours before the polls close, less than 50% of voters have turned out for the provincial administrative organization (PAO) elections in Phuket. The electoral process, which began earlier today, has seen most of its activity during the morning hours, resulting in a quieter afternoon at the polling stations.

According to Thai News Agency, the voting process has remained smooth throughout the day. At Thalang Phra Nang Sang School, which contains five polling stations in the Thep Krasattri Subdistrict of Thalang District, officials reported a voter turnout of approximately 30-40%, with most voters arriving in the morning. Many voters expressed challenges in participating due to the election being scheduled on a Saturday.

Ms. Ornpin Achiwasuk, Director of the Phuket Provincial Election Commission Office, confirmed that no complaints have been filed against the three candidates for PAO president or the 48 PAO members across 24 districts for election law violations. Additionally, no voters were found violating election laws at any of the 392 polling stations located in the districts of Mueang, Kathu, and Thalang. With only 40% of voters participating so far, the overall voter turnout remains low in the province.
