Parents Seek Help from Paveena Foundation to Locate Missing Daughter in Oman

Bangkok: Calling "Pawina", daughter has been in Oman and has been missing for more than 3 months. Parents traveled from Lampang to file a complaint with the president of the Paveena Foundation. Their 29-year-old daughter has a Bangladeshi husband who lives in Oman but has been missing for more than 3 months and has not been able to be contacted.

According to Thai News Agency, the parents, aged 68 and 71, traveled alongside a friend of their daughter who recently returned from Oman to lodge a complaint with Ms. Paveena Hongsakul, President of the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation for Children and Women. They sought assistance in locating their daughter, known as "Nong Mind," who had been residing with her husband in Oman for several years but suddenly lost contact with her family in November 2014.

The family and friends are concerned for Nong Mind's safety, fearing that she might be harmed. They have requested the Paveena Foundation's help in coordinating with both the embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after receiving a video clip that allegedly shows Nong Mind being physically abused by her husband. Details from the video indicate severe abuse, including swollen features, hair loss, deformed fingers, and multiple bruises. The family suspects she was coerced into drug use and subjected to regular beatings.

Ms. Pawina, upon receiving the case, coordinated with Mr. Amnat Phalapleewan, Director of the Division of Protection and Care of the Benefits of Thais Abroad, and Mr. Monthon Chansiri, a Senior Diplomat, who confirmed that the Department of Consular Affairs is urgently following up with the Thai Embassy in Oman.

Furthermore, Ms. Paweena plans to have Mr. Ekkapab Hongsakul, Director of the Paweena Foundation, accompany Mind's parents to the Division of Protection and Care for the Benefits of Thais Abroad to provide additional information. On February 23, a friend of Mind who returned from Oman was brought directly from the airport to meet Ms. Paweena for further discussions. On February 24, Mind's parents are scheduled to meet with Pol. Maj. Gen. Suraphan Thaiprasert, Commander of the Foreign Affairs Division, Royal Thai Police.

Nong Mind's father expressed profound concern, sharing that Mind is the family's sole daughter and primary supporter. Her mother is blind, and her son, who is 10 years old, has special needs. Mind moved to Oman in 2020 to work in a restaurant and regularly sent money home. Her father continues to work as a general laborer while relying on allowances to support the family. The family last communicated with Mind in May 2024 via video call, but after July 24, 2024, all communication ceased.
