Officials Tighten Security at Ban Nong Chan After Controlled Area Declaration

Sa kaeo: Officials continue to maintain tight security around Ban Nong Chan after the Burapha Force declared it a controlled area, prohibiting the carrying of weapons and the use of loudspeakers. Land officials have entered the area to verify land rights.

According to Thai News Agency, on the second day following the Burapha Task Force's announcement, the commander of the force signed a declaration designating the area of "Ban Nong Chan" as a peacekeeping zone. This declaration covers Sri Phen Road and imposes restrictions on weapon carrying and the indiscriminate use of loudspeakers. Consequently, there were no stages, sound trucks, or rallies, unlike the previous days. While some local residents came to observe the event, many returned upon noting the absence of speeches or gatherings. Additionally, individuals from outside the area entered the zone, seemingly for content creation purposes, holding national flags and taking photographs with signs and along Sri Phen Road.

Behind the official barrier, where Cambodian residents had previously erected houses before being evicted, land officials are set to verify land rights today. This follows submissions by villagers, including documents such as SorKor.1 and SorKor.3, to the governor of Sa Kaeo province.
