Bangkok: The NCB Subcommittee on Production has approved a budget to help with the annual rice farming at 1,200 baht per rai. According to Thai News Agency, the NEB Subcommittee on Production has resolved to approve the payment of financial assistance to farmers for the 68/69 wet season at 1,200 baht per rai for households with no more than 10 rai, using a budget of over 40 billion baht. For the dry season rice at 1,000 baht per rai, additional considerations are being prepared for submission to the NEB. Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, stated that the National Rice Policy and Administration Subcommittee on Production approved the project to support management costs and develop product quality for farmers growing wet-season rice in the 2025/2026 production year. The project is expected to cover approximately 4.6 million farmer households, with a total budget of approximately 40 billion baht. The resolution will be forwarded to the NBTC's general meeting for further a pproval. The assistance project for dry season rice in 2025/2026, proposing support at a rate of 1,000 baht per rai for up to 10 rai per household, is still under consideration. The project aims to cover around 850,000 farmer households and has a proposed budget of approximately 7.2 billion baht. The meeting will collect suggestions to forward to the National Agricultural Extension Commission for further review. Mr. Pramote Charoensilp, President of the Thai Farmers and Farmers Association, expressed concern over the delay in considering the second-crop rice assistance project due to ongoing issues with low rice prices and farmer losses. He urged expedited approval to alleviate farmers' difficulties. He also suggested supporting wet-season rice at 1,500 baht per rai, aligning with actual costs, but accepted the 1,200 baht resolution as a partial relief. The Ministry of Agriculture and related agencies will monitor progress at the NBTC meeting and prepare to adjust project details based on sector suggestion s to ensure timely and fair assistance for eligible farmers in this year's production season.
