Waeng: A motorcycle bomb detonated next to the Volunteer Defense Corps Company wall in Waeng District, Narathiwat Province, injuring 25 people. The explosion was captured on CCTV footage, revealing the moment the perpetrators planted the explosive device.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident was recorded by a CCTV camera on an electric pole in front of the Waeng District Office. The footage shows a sidecar motorcycle being used to carry out the attack. Waeng Police Station officers found significant damage at the scene, including a collapsed fence and several damaged motorcycles belonging to the Volunteer Defense Corps. The explosion also affected nearby building structures, prompting officials to close traffic in the area.
Authorities later investigated at Waeng Hospital, where it was confirmed that 25 individuals were injured in the explosion. Among the injured are three members of the Volunteer Defense Corps and ten civilians, who remain under medical care.
Further examination of CCTV footage revealed two perpetrators involved in the attack. The footage shows one individual riding a motorcycle with a sidecar, carrying a gas tank, and parking it next to the target location before fleeing on another motorcycle. The explosion occurred five minutes later, causing widespread damage within a 100-meter radius and injuring both defense corps members and civilians.
The chief of Waeng Police Station stated that efforts are underway to review additional CCTV footage from surrounding areas. Authorities suspect that the perpetrators may have sought refuge in houses belonging to members of a violent group in Waeng District after carrying out the attack.
