Bangkok: Cartoon's mother, Ms. Sarannya, held a heart-wrenching water pouring ceremony for her daughter, Ms. Phinyanatmi, affectionately known as Nong Cartoon, who passed away at the age of 16. The event was attended by grieving family members and supporters from the "Grilled with Love, Marinated with Heart" online community.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sarannya recounted her painful decision to cease medical intervention for her daughter, who had been on life support for 11 years. Despite their efforts, Nong Cartoon's condition deteriorated, leading to her peaceful passing on June 10, 2025. During these years, the family faced significant financial burdens, with medical expenses totaling around 20 million baht, and are still managing debts from recent hospitalizations.
The ongoing legal battle with the other party involved in the incident that led to Nong Cartoon's condition remains unresolved. Ms. Sarannya expressed frustration, noting that despite a court ruling, the other party has not offered any assistance or remorse. She highlighted the need for systemic changes to ensure that victims receive justice and financial investigations are conducted effectively.
Ms. Sarannya's calls for justice extend beyond her personal tragedy. She advocates for legislative reforms to support victims financially and legally, preventing others from enduring similar struggles. She believes that establishing a fund to investigate the assets of perpetrators could provide much-needed relief and deter future offenses.
The funeral for Nong Cartoon will take place over seven nights at Wat Rat Burana, with the cremation scheduled for June 19, 2025. Ms. Sarannya remains resolute in her pursuit of justice for her daughter, vowing to continue her fight against the legal system's shortcomings.
