Ratchaburi: A young Chula student spends his free time raising guppies at his home in Ratchaburi, selling them both domestically and internationally, earning him up to 30,000 baht per month. What's more, he can breed new ones himself, making them beautiful and unusual.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jiaranai Jiarthamjak, 21 years old, a 4th-year student in the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University, opened a guppy fish farm, 'Jiaranai Fish Farm', at his home in Photharam District, Ratchaburi Province. Since he already liked raising fish, he studied and gained knowledge, tried and failed for more than 3 years, and was able to breed and produce beautiful and unusual guppies.
Mr. Jiaranai said that he raises more than 40 species of guppies. His teammates help him do it. He emphasizes variety for customers to choose from. The most popular species in the market are Halfmoon or Dragon, while the ones that are purely red are Albino and Full Red. Exotic species of fish are expensive. The price depends on the satisfaction between the buyer and seller. The starting grade is 300 baht per pair and up. The most expensive pair is 2,000-3,000 baht. They are sent to sell to customers abroad.
The breed that was bred by ourselves is called 'Platinum Purple Dragon'. It has a purple tail and body. They are bred to increase the number and stabilize the bloodline so that the offspring will be like the parents. Now, people have started to reserve in advance.
Raising guppies does not require much capital and space. Place layers of bricks, about 10 plastic boxes, a small air pump, and the total cost of the parents and equipment is no more than 2,500 baht. The emphasis is on natural farming, using aquatic plants to remove waste from the water, and adding oxygen to feed microorganisms so that the microorganisms can eliminate fish waste and help break down debris in the water, making the fish healthy and strong. After about 3 months, they can be sold to customers. If good parents are used, they can be bred and sold for a good price all year round.
