Bangkok: The Ministry of Agriculture has mandated enhanced safety protocols at the Or Tor Kor Market.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Government Spokesperson Anukul Prueksanusak disclosed that the Ministry has implemented these measures in response to a recent shooting incident at the Agricultural Marketing Organization market in Bangkok's Chatuchak district. The incident was confirmed to be an isolated event resulting from a personal conflict.
Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn has instructed an increase in security and efforts to restore confidence among both local and international visitors. This includes the deployment of stricter security personnel and the enforcement of higher safety standards.
The Social Security Office is conducting an expedited investigation and has rolled out comprehensive compensation measures for the affected families. The office is providing benefits amounting to over 3.9 million baht to the families of the deceased. The benefits include coverage for funeral expenses and a 70% monthly wage compensation for ten years from the Workmen's Compensation Fund. Additionally, retirement pensions will be provided to those who contributed to Section 40, an optional retirement savings plan.
Mr. Anukul emphasized the importance of the Or Tor Kor Market as a key player in the agricultural sector, serving as a crucial hub for high-quality agricultural products. The market attracts both Thai and foreign visitors, thus generating significant income. He called on the public to promote the market while ensuring adherence to the newly implemented security measures.
