Ministry Clarifies Diplomatic Discussions with Thai Ambassador

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the recent invitation extended to the Thai ambassador to Cambodia for discussions does not signify any intention to sever diplomatic relations between the two nations.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the meeting with the Thai ambassador was a routine engagement to discuss official matters. This clarification comes in response to reports suggesting that Mr. Maris Sengiampong, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, had instructed the Thai ambassador to return to Thailand to downgrade diplomatic relations and as a form of retaliation against Cambodia. The Ministry emphasized that such discussions are standard procedures and should not be misconstrued as a diplomatic rift.

The Department of Information at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that during sensitive times, media outlets are urged to rely on official announcements from the Ministry rather than speculative reports. It was stressed that current circumstances require careful handling of information with international implications.

Despite the swirling reports, the Ministry has not scheduled any press conference. The Ministry urges all media to exercise patience and caution, highlighting the importance of awaiting formal communication for accurate updates.
