Ubon Ratchathani: Deeply resentful over a past altercation, a 65-year-old man, Mr. At, fatally stabbed his former adversary, Mr. Somdee, 52, with a screwdriver in an abandoned housing estate in Ban Pak Nam, Tambon Kut Lat, Amphoe Mueang Ubon Ratchathani.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Somdee suffered six stab wounds: one in the chest, one in the right ribcage, and four in the stomach. Despite rescue workers' efforts to perform CPR and the involvement of a high-level emergency unit from the 50th Anniversary Maha Vajilalongkorn Hospital, Mr. Somdee succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.
Mr. At fled the crime scene but was later apprehended by police as he emerged from a nearby forest, still in possession of the weapon. During interrogation, he confessed to the killing, citing a grudge stemming from a previous incident where Mr. Somdee had assaulted him, resulting in broken ribs and a lengthy hospitalization.
The suspect, who previously lived in Pattaya, explained that his animosity towards Mr. Somdee persisted over the years. Upon encountering Mr. Somdee at the site of the incident, Mr. At returned to his rented accommodation nearby, retrieved a screwdriver, and attacked his former assailant. After the attack, he attempted to flee but was intercepted by police.
Mr. At has been charged with intentional murder. In a surprising turn during police questioning, an unidentified man attacked Mr. At, punching him before quickly leaving the scene.
