Nakhon Sawan: The abbot of a renowned temple in Nakhon Sawan Province has won the first prize in the lottery but has chosen to remain discreet about his windfall. Despite his silence, the temple has been bustling with relatives and devotees who gathered to congratulate him.
According to Thai News Agency, the abbot secured the first prize in the lottery draw on February 16, 2025, with ticket number 847377, earning him 6 million baht. The fortunate event prompted reporters to visit the temple in Phu Yuak Khiri District, Nakhon Sawan Province, where the atmosphere was lively. The temple was already hosting its annual ordination ceremony for nuns and brahmins, enhancing the celebratory mood among disciples and devotees.
The abbot, maintaining a low profile, refrained from giving interviews. He was seen walking around the temple hall, engaging in conversations with relatives and devotees but avoiding media inquiries. Ms. Muai, the temple cook, confirmed the abbot's lottery win, explaining that he purchased the ticket from a regular traveling lottery vendor. The abbot has a habit of buying several tickets, driven by his desire to use any winnings for temple development. Notably, he often selects tickets ending in 77, corresponding to his age. Ms. Muai believes the abbot will share some of his winnings with relatives, but his primary focus remains on using the funds to enhance the temple and express his gratitude.
