Bangkok: The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) has addressed the widespread power outage that occurred last night in the Saphan Khwai area of Phaya Thai District, emphasizing that it was due to a technical issue. According to Thai News Agency, the MEA clarified that the power outage affected areas along Pradiphat Road and Rama VI Road around 10:12 PM on August 5, 2015. The incident was attributed to a technical malfunction of equipment at a substation during preparations for routine power distribution system maintenance. To address the outage, officials took immediate action by temporarily relocating the electrical load to a nearby substation, which restored power to the affected areas. The MEA reiterated that the power disruption was purely a technical issue, with no links to terrorism or cyber threats. Experts are currently investigating the exact cause of the equipment failure and are working on implementing measures to prevent future occurrences. The MEA extended an apology for any inconvenience caused to residents and businesses in the affected areas.
