Maris Denies Cabinet Reshuffle Rumors Amid Regional Security Efforts

Bangkok: Foreign Minister Maris Sengiampong has refuted circulating rumors about his alleged removal from the cabinet, emphasizing that the Prime Minister has already addressed the issue with no changes announced. He expressed uncertainty about how such information was leaked, asserting that there is no basis for the claims.

According to Thai News Agency, Maris also discussed the recent power outage in Myanmar, noting that the action has garnered positive feedback and is seen as a step toward addressing the problem of call centers. The minister highlighted that any similar measures proposed for Poipet, Cambodia, and Kings Roman, Laos, would require careful consideration and evidence before proceeding.

Maris confirmed ongoing coordination with the Myanmar government, stating that he was unaware of any arrest warrants issued by the Department of Special Investigation for Colonel Maung Chit Thu, leader of the BGF. He stressed that such matters are handled by the appropriate authorities and reiterated the government's commitment to addressing the issue collaboratively. The Myanmar government, he noted, made no special requests, but all parties are working together to tackle the challenge, as previously highlighted by the Prime Minister.

Addressing concerns about the Myanmar government's ability to act in ethnic minority regions, Maris acknowledged the importance of using measures like electricity cuts as a form of pressure. He emphasized that these actions are agreed upon by all parties involved, and ASEAN's role in applying pressure is being considered to help resolve the situation.
