Marines Successfully Secure Trat Border as Cambodian Soldiers Retreat

Trat: Marines have taken control of the entire area following border clashes in Trat, responding to Cambodian soldiers who attempted to encroach on Thai sovereignty. The Cambodian forces fled and retreated, leading to a tense situation as civilians evacuated to safety.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident began on July 26, 2016, when a report from the Trat Provincial Security Unit detailed that Cambodian soldiers had crossed into the Thai border at three points and opened fire on Thai soldiers early in the morning. The Thai Marines quickly launched the "Trat Phikat Pairi 1" operation, regaining control of the area and forcing the Cambodian military out without any reported injuries or fatalities.

In the midst of the conflict, residents of Khlong Yai District in Trat Province began evacuating to safer regions, moving approximately 75 percent of the population to Mueang Trat District on July 24-25, 2015, to ensure their safety amidst the rising tensions.
