Malaysian National Apprehended for Gold Heist in Hat Yai

Hat Yai: A Malaysian national, Mr. Yi Bun Long, has been apprehended following a solo robbery of a gold shop in the heart of Hat Yai city. The arrest took place at the New Southern Bus Terminal after it was discovered that he had traveled to visit his son in Nonthaburi Province, only to be refused entry into the house by his son.

According to Thai News Agency, the Central Investigation Bureau, along with the Investigation Division of Region 1 and Region 9, utilized CCTV footage to track Mr. Yibunlong's movements. The footage revealed him purchasing a bus ticket from Hat Yai Bus Station to the New Southern Bus Station. Upon arrest, authorities recovered 138 baht worth of gold jewelry from him, which included 19 1-baht gold necklaces, 12 2-baht gold bracelets, 19 2-baht gold necklaces, and 19 3-baht gold bracelets. Additionally, the handgun used in the robbery and bullets were secured as evidence.

Mr. Yibunlong stated that his journey to Bangkok was intended for a visit to his son in Nonthaburi Province. However, upon learning of his father's involvement in the robbery, his son denied him entry into the home. Police subsequently arrested Mr. Yibunlong at the Southern Bus Terminal. He is now being transported back to Hat Yai Police Station, where the incident took place, to undergo further questioning and legal proceedings.
