Lawyer Reports Legal Action Against Famous Page for Leaking Photos of Preacher in Buriram

Buriram: The Buriram Buddhist Office went to inspect a monastery in Buriram Province after a famous page released a leaked photo of a man resembling a famous monk in Buriram Province. Meanwhile, a lawyer filed a complaint against the famous page for defamation and the Computer Crimes Act.

According to Thai News Agency, after a famous page posted a picture of a man resembling a monk in various poses in a private room, claiming that someone had complained via the page, and also posted the complainant's message. The complainant's message stated that this monk had behaved inappropriately in many ways.

The news team went to investigate a temple in Buriram Province. The name of the famous preaching monk of Buriram was listed as the abbot, but the abbot was not at the temple. The temple boy learned from the temple boy that the abbot was abroad.

Phra Khru Nithet Thammakhun, abbot of Wat Non Din Daeng Tai, head monk of Non Din Daeng district, along with officials from the Buriram Provincial Office of Buddhism, local monks, and police investigators from Non Din Daeng Police Station, went to the monastery where the famous preaching monk was staying. However, since the monk was still abroad, they spoke to him and asked for information via mobile phone.

The abbot of Non Din Daeng district stated that from talking to the famous monk via mobile phone, the picture that appeared on social media that was released had a tattoo on his back, so he asked the monk to take a picture of his back and show it to him. It was found that the tattoo matched, which the famous monk admitted was really the monk's picture, that it was a picture taken on his mobile phone a long time ago. He confirmed that it was the same picture, there were no other people with him, and he did not have a relationship with anyone as the page mentioned. As for drugs, no abnormalities were found.

This morning, before the abbot of Non Din Daeng District and the Buriram Provincial Office of Buddhism went to the area to investigate the facts, Mr. Surin, a lawyer, reported that he was assigned by a famous preaching monk to file a complaint with Pol. Lt. Col. Senai Chim-ngam, an investigator at Non Din Daeng Police Station, Non Din Daeng District, to take action against the famous page on charges of defamation and the Computer Act.

Mr. Surin said that he had just been contacted by the monk that there was a page that he did not know who it belonged to. It looked like it was a defamation offense and the Computer Act. The monk is not here at the moment. He went abroad and will return on July 8. As for whether it is really his picture or not, he did not know. He had to wait for the monk to return first. Initially, the monk said that it was probably an AI picture.

Asked the brother-in-law of the famous preaching monk, he said that normally the monk would sometimes stay at the temple, sometimes preach at other places, every other week, but now he was going to Japan. After the news came out, he admitted that he was shocked because he had no history of this. As for the image that appeared, he did not believe that it was the monk, but it looked like a monk who had preached at this temple before, but he admitted that it was close.

However, on July 9, 2015, the Buddhist Office, the Sangha, and the police will jointly inquire the truth from the abbot again to give the abbot an opportunity to clarify for fairness. As for the page's statement that there were people in the temple who were involved in drug use, this case will also be investigated. Everything will be discussed according to the evidence.
