Khon Kaen: Elderly relatives bring their children and grandchildren to the temple to make merit for good fortune to welcome Songkran. Today, Wat That, a royal temple in Khon Kaen Province, is holding a celebration for the 500th anniversary of Luang Pho Phra Lap.
According to Thai News Agency, Khon Kaen residents and tourists have been continuously entering Wat That, a royal temple in Khon Kaen Municipality since the morning to make merit during Songkran. Today, April 14, is also a family day. Relatives do not forget to bring their children to join the activity, absorb the beautiful traditions of Thailand, and help strengthen relationships and increase warmth in families and relatives. During this Songkran festival, it is the only opportunity for people to pay homage to the real Luang Por Phra Lap. This year is a special occasion. Khon Kaen Province, together with Wat That, a royal temple, organizes the Boon Duan Ha tradition, a procession to worship the Buddha, and the 500-year-old Phra Lap. This is one of the activities that the Ministry of Culture, through the Department of Cultural Promotion, is driving the government’s soft power policy on culture and tourism under the concept of ‘Songkran at My Home, Colorful Thai Style, Happiness Across the World.’ Khon Kaen is
one of the five cities with outstanding identities.
Another highlight that has caused a stir, especially among children, is the dinosaur pulpit that can sing and move. It is the only one in the world. It is a Phuwiangosaurus Sirindhorne dinosaur, whose remains were excavated only in Khon Kaen. It symbolizes the ecosystem that supports each other, the birth, existence, and death according to the laws of nature.
