Bangkok: "Icecream" has criticized the Pheu Thai Party's historical demand to conduct a 30-hour debate solely with "Uncle Tu," calling it an unreasonable move. He cited three reasons against holding a one-day censure debate, emphasizing the necessity for the three involved parties to reach a consensus.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Panusaya Wacharasindhu, a member of parliament for the party list and spokesperson of the Prachachon Party, highlighted the need for further discussions on setting the debate date among the three whips. It is anticipated that the President of the House of Representatives will announce a meeting date within the week after the agenda is set. Despite this, the opposition maintains that allocating just one day for the debate is insufficient for three main reasons. First, although the debate focuses on a single prime minister, it encompasses all aspects of national administration, given that the prime minister oversees all ministries. Thus, reducing the duration is unjustified. Second, historical data shows that even in 1996 and 1997, debates extended over 3-4 days. Lastly, during General Prayut Chan-o-cha's administration, the Pheu Thai Party, while in opposition, demanded a 30-hour debate on General Prayut, which effectively exceeds a single day.
In response to the government whip's suggestion that extending the debate beyond a day would require initial discussions with the government, Mr. Prisht reiterated that the final decision on the debate's duration should be a collective agreement among the three parties. Nonetheless, the opposition stands firm on the notion that a one-day debate is insufficient.
