Grilled Bananas: A Longstanding Favorite Snack in Khon Kaen

Bangkok: Grilled bananas, a popular dessert snack, delight the residents of Khon Kaen, with daily sales reaching 8,000 baht.

According to Thai News Agency, the 'Grilled Bananas' snack menu has been cherished by the Khon Kaen community for over 21 years. The Ruean Rom Grilled Banana Shop, known for its cart-style setup, is situated in front of the Fujifilm photography shop, opposite Tong Paet Market on Ruean Rom Road. The shop's grilled bananas have become a staple treat, and the business is now run by its second generation.

Ms. Sathiya Kongsibsa, the current owner, revealed that the secret to the snack's appeal lies in selecting medium-sized Nam Wa bananas. She uses at least 60 bunches daily, with each stick consisting of five bananas. The bananas are grilled on charcoal covered with ashes, a method that prevents them from burning prematurely. Grilling takes between 15 to 30 minutes per batch, and frequent turning ensures even cooking.

The shop also offers a unique dipping sauce made from fresh coconut milk, prepared using a special in-house recipe. This sauce complements the grilled bananas, creating a well-rounded flavor. Priced from just 30 baht per set, the snack remains affordable for customers.
