Governor Chadchart Says There Is Still Hope, Searching for Survivors of Collapsed Building

Bangkok: Governor Chadchart inspects the area where the Office of the Auditor General collapsed due to an earthquake. All units continue to search for survivors, even though it is almost 48 hours after finding signs of life. According to Thai News Agency, at 07:00 a.m., Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, visited the area to inspect the progress of the search operation for missing persons from the collapse of the new Office of the Auditor General (OAG) building in Chatuchak during the earthquake. Mr. Chadchart said that all units are still searching for and rescuing the victims, and there is still full hope even though it is almost 48 hours because the scans still show vital signs, including the bodies of the deceased that have not been removed yet, they must be gradually removed first. The point where vital signs were found is in front of the building, Zone A, where there is an underground cavity. Initially, a scanner was used to detect the body mass. Currently, officials are slowly digging the remains down and using K-9 dogs to examine it. If the dog looks excited or happy, it means it is still alive. But if the dog sits down, it means it was found dead. For the difficulty now, because it is a rescue operation, not just a dismantling operation, in removing the various parts, we must be very careful so that there is no risk to the survivors. Therefore, there must be constant monitoring and the officers who go down must be careful. But rest assured that everything is done according to international standards, with foreign experts joining in the planning. For the number of dead, we have to wait for the officials to confirm again. Previously, there may have been confusion and different numbers because there were different counting methods. They may have included bodies that were seen but could not be removed. Recently, the incident commander concluded that the finalized number will only include bodies that have been removed. As for the situation at other points, at the Din Daeng Expressway where a c rane fell and blocked the expressway, yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnveenkul came to command the incident and ordered the crane to be cut. Now, a lot of it has been cut. It is expected that if the work is completed this afternoon, traffic will be open tomorrow. But wait for the overall picture in the evening again. While the Yellow and Pink Lines are being inspected urgently, if it is completed and reopened, it is expected that traffic conditions will return to normal 100%. Today, there is concern about the possibility of rain falling in the area. When asked, the district director said that there should be no problem with the steel structure. But what is worrying is the area outside because there is still dust that comes out and clogs the drains. The Drainage Office will be urged to come and clear the pipes.
