Bangkok: The government has introduced a new initiative called the 'Fraud Alert Service' on the LINE Official "BAAC Family" platform, designed to enhance safety and security for its citizens. This service allows users to check, report, and receive warnings about potential frauds conveniently and securely, regardless of their location.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anukul Prueksanusak, Deputy Government Spokesperson, highlighted the growing threats posed by fraudsters exploiting digital platforms and applications due to rapid technological advancements. In response, the government, in collaboration with the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives and the Ministry of Finance, has developed this service in partnership with the Technology Crime Investigation Division. The 'Fraud Alert Service' aims to protect more than 14 million users of the bank's digital system from cybercrime.
Mr. Anukul noted that Thailand has experienced significant financial losses, amounting to approximately 30 billion baht annually, primarily due to cybercrime activities by call center gangs. These scams often target vulnerable groups, particularly the elderly, through deceptive messages mimicking government agencies offering financial aid or low-interest loans. However, fraudsters have expanded their reach to other demographics and regions.
'The government is committed to suppressing cybercrime through education, public awareness campaigns, and direct action against criminals. The success in apprehending offenders and disrupting their financial networks is a testament to the government's dedication. The LINE Official 'BAAC Family' service represents a significant step in enhancing security, offering users a comprehensive tool to check, report, and warn about threats. This service is available to users without any charges and enables them to verify phone numbers, detect mule or fake accounts, and report suspicious websites to law enforcement in real time, all within a single chat interface,' stated Mr. Anukul.
