Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, has expressed his unwavering confidence and trust in Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra. He voiced his belief that she would not dissolve the parliament for political gain, urging the public to view cabinet reshuffles as a means to prioritize public welfare rather than political arithmetic.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin emphasized the importance of focusing on the needs of the people rather than adhering strictly to party lines. During a visit to Udon Thani Province, he highlighted the significance of cooperation among all MPs, regardless of their party affiliation, to address and solve the issues faced by the people.
Anutin advised against speculating on potential party mergers or elections, stating that the government still has ample time to decide on political collaborations. He also noted that typically, prime ministers opt to dissolve the parliament before the end of the term to avoid hindrances in progress, as it allows for more flexibility in operations.
He dismissed the notion of viewing politics as a mathematical exercise, asserting that the focus should be on who can best serve the people. Anutin assured that his party's readiness to be in opposition does not affect his relationship with the Prime Minister, stating that their recent communications have been strictly professional, with no discussions on cabinet reshuffles.
Addressing rumors of a dinner with former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Anutin denied any recent meetings, attributing the speculation to past events. He confirmed that upcoming meetings with his party's executive committee would focus on budgetary matters to benefit the public.
Anutin expressed gratitude towards the public for their trust, as reflected in a Mahidol University poll, which ranked his ministry low on the list of those needing a reshuffle. He emphasized the importance of listening to public opinion over political criticism.
In response to concerns about the government's focus on the cabinet reshuffle rather than national issues like border problems, Anutin reiterated that the well-being of the people remains the primary concern for both him and the Prime Minister. He stressed the importance of supporting the military in handling border issues, highlighting the government's role in backing military operations and maintaining national security.
Anutin concluded by reaffirming his trust in the Prime Minister's leadership, expressing confidence in her commitment to prioritize the people's interests above all else.
