Government Establishes Committee to Address Agricultural Challenges

Bangkok: The government has initiated efforts to resolve agricultural product issues by establishing committees and provincial subcommittees dedicated to addressing agricultural challenges. Farmers are urged to maintain confidence in these measures, as the government emphasizes its commitment to addressing farmers' concerns.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anukul Prueksanusak, Deputy Government Spokesperson, stated that the government is actively responding to the situation faced by the second-season rice paddy market for 2024/2025, where prices have fallen below 10,000 baht. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is spearheading efforts to resolve these issues and ensure smooth agricultural operations, following directives from Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra.

Mr. Anukul announced that Mrs. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, has formed a committee to oversee agricultural and cooperative work. The committee, led by Ms. Namanita Klapklao, Assistant Minister to the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, includes Mr. Anukul and representatives from relevant agencies. The committee's responsibilities include monitoring the implementation of agricultural policies, gathering input from government officials and related parties, and addressing public complaints related to agriculture.

To tackle challenges at the provincial level, the Ministry has also set up subcommittees to ensure effective implementation of agricultural policies locally. These subcommittees will handle complaints from the agricultural sector within provinces and report their findings to the main committee.

Mr. Anukul emphasized the government's commitment to the agricultural sector, acknowledging the crucial role farmers play in the nation. He assured that the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives would expedite the development and distribution of quality rice varieties to farmers. Additionally, the Rice Policy and Management Committee (RPMC) is working on immediate measures to support rice prices and assist farmers.
