Bangkok: 'Gen. Prayut' Privy Councilor returns to the 1st Army Region to join the 115th anniversary celebration, greeting the media with "Happy New Year" while the 1st Army Region emphasizes readiness to perform the duty of protecting the country's main institutions.
According to Thai News Agency, General Pana Klaewplodtook, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, presided over the 115th anniversary ceremony of the First Army Area on 13 January 2025. The event was attended by General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Privy Councilor and former Commander of the First Army Area, alongside high-ranking commanders and various government agencies. Lieutenant General Amarit Bunsuya, Commander of the First Army Area, welcomed the attendees at the First Army Area Headquarters.
The ceremony also saw the presence of former commanders of the 1st Army, such as General Bandit Malaiarisoon, General Somthat Attanan, General Nipon Pharanit, and General Udomdej Sitabutr. General Prayut engaged in conversations with both former and current commanders of the First Army Area, extending a New Year greeting to the media with a smile.
The First Army was established in 1910 during the reign of King Rama VI. It was formed through the merger of three divisions: the First Division, Bangkok Military District; the Second Division, Nakhon Chai Si Military District; and the Third Division, Ayutthaya Military District. This move led to the formation of the First Army, which later became known as the First Army Area.
The First Army Area has a significant mission to maintain peace and order within the country. It prepares forces to be ready to address any situation that may arise, ensuring peace and order. Additionally, it has set up a command center to monitor situations and control and support national development missions. It plays a crucial role as the 1st Army Area Disaster Relief Center, assisting people affected by disasters in the Bangkok area and 25 central provinces, as well as supporting government work.
The First Army Area also undertakes missions to honor and provide safety for the royal family and support various royal initiatives. It is a vital force in protecting the nation, religion, and the monarchy, ensuring stability and adaptability to face all forms of threats.
