NACC Appoints Advisor to Investigate Officials Providing Benefits to Thaksin

Bangkok: The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has appointed advisors to assist in the investigation of officials accused of providing benefits to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra during his medical treatment on the 14th floor of the Police General Hospital.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Saroj Phuengramphan, Secretary-General and spokesman of the NACC, announced that the committee, led by NACC member Mr. Ekwit Watchawalaku, is examining allegations against Mr. Sahakan Petcharin, Director-General of the Department of Corrections, and Pol. Lt. Gen. Taweesin Vejvitar, Chief Medical Officer of the Police General Hospital. The officials are accused of improperly transferring Thaksin from Bangkok Special Prison to the hospital and allowing him to remain there for 180 days without valid medical reasons, allegedly to benefit him by avoiding prison detention.

The NACC has decided to appoint advisors and a team of secretarial officers to support the investigation process and establish guidelines. The team is tasked with conducting witness investigations, collecting evidence, and reporting progress to the NACC board monthly.

The public is urged to seek information directly from the NACC's official channels to ensure accuracy. The NACC emphasizes its commitment to swift but thorough investigations, upholding standards of honesty, fairness, transparency, and accountability.
