Udon Thani: Police have taken into custody a husband who fatally stabbed his ex-wife, Ms. Beer, for further questioning. The suspect, Mr. Ritthiphon, also known as Top, reportedly exhibited a calm demeanor and refrained from responding to media inquiries. His family, including his parents and relatives, have gathered to provide support.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred in Village 5, Ban Chan Subdistrict, Mueang District, Udon Thani Province. Mr. Top, aged 32, allegedly broke into Ms. Beer's home and inflicted over ten stab wounds to her neck, resulting in her death. He then fled the scene on a motorcycle. CCTV footage from the village enabled police to track and apprehend him at his residence, located approximately 5 kilometers from the crime scene. During a reenactment of the crime, he maintained a calm demeanor, despite facing verbal confrontations from his mother-in-law and other relatives, including his distressed 10-year-old daughter, who questioned why he committed the act.
At the Udon Thani City Police Station, Mr. Top's mother and relatives have remained present since morning, ensuring he receives meals and water. Police escorted him for further questioning in the afternoon. Despite reporters' attempts to elicit comments regarding his motives, Mr. Top offered no responses and appeared detached. Relatives attempted to console him, while a lawyer attended to oversee the proceedings. It is believed that the crime stemmed from Mr. Top's resentment over Ms. Beer's refusal to reconcile after a decade-long relationship. Tensions had escalated due to Mr. Top's unemployment, substance abuse, and gambling, which exhausted Ms. Beer's financial resources. Ms. Beer had previously filed a police report last year following threats from Mr. Top. Police plan to request a detention order from the court tomorrow.
