Ang Thong: A three-story building at the renowned Ang Thong Pathomroj Wittayakhom School was severely damaged by a fire that broke out in the middle of the night. Officials mobilized numerous fire engines to control the blaze, which took over an hour to contain. The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred at 2:30 a.m. when officers from the Ang Thong 191 radio center were alerted to the fire. The report prompted coordination with fire engines from nearby local administrative organizations, deploying more than ten vehicles along with the Ruamkatanyu Foundation's firefighting team to the scene. They encountered a fire engulfing the three-story Art Exhibition Hall, rapidly spreading across all floors. Despite efforts, the presence of high-quality teaching equipment complicated firefighting efforts, requiring over an hour to bring the fire under control.
The school security guard, who first noticed the fire, reported that while patrolling the school at 2:00 a.m., he detected smoke and initially thought a vendor was preparing food. However, upon observing Building 2, he saw flames originating on the second floor, which quickly spread. He promptly alerted authorities to intervene.
Police officers from Ang Thong City Police Station were dispatched to the scene, cordoning off the area to prevent entry due to the risk of collapse from heat exposure. Initial damage assessments indicate potential losses amounting to several million baht, given the significant amount of educational materials housed in the building. Police forensic officers will be engaged to investigate the cause of the fire further.
